KMPH Interview at my House

Local Fresno, CA TV station KMPH paid me a visit last week. This was my first interview and I was really nervous. Derrol Nail called me about 4:00 p.m. at work and said they were going to be at my house around 5. I told my co-worker, and he in turn let me go home early. I had no idea what I was going to say - and luckily Derrol was easy going and fun. They were at my house for nearly 2 hours, going from room to room as Derrol read off his list of questions.

Creative ways to save your home from Foreclosure

With foreclosures imminent and the housing market taking an even bigger turn for the worse, I’ve decided to do something about it. Even with help from the government and the hope that interest rates will fall in mid September 2007 – one can never be sure. Hi, my name is Eric Westman and I’m a valley native who bought a house in Visalia, CA 2 years ago when home prices were well inflated out of fear that I would never be able to afford a home. 2 years later my adjustable rate is getting ready to balloon. Sure, my credit score is better, but the equity in my house has dropped. I’m living in a starter home – 2 bed 1 bath; granted, it is in an area of Visalia destined to be rebuilt by the city – near East Main Street – there are plans in the works to build mixed condo business and an art museum for kids, even a bridge over Santa Fe that would re-route traffic from the already congested Ben Maddox. I imagine that about 10 years from now the area I’m in will be very valuable – but I can’t wait that long. I fear losing my house to foreclosure. One night I was pondering ways to save my home – I’m sure many people have done that. I was thinking of that guy over in England a few years ago who build the “million dollar homepage” in which he sold pixel space on a website in order to reach his goal of 1 million dollars to pay for his schooling. Great idea Alex! He did just that, in a matter of 4 months he reached his goal and is now finishing up his college tenure. Then recently I read a story about a guy up in Canada who started a trading blog – not for money, but to trade up. He started with a red paperclip, and then traded it for a clock – over a period of a year he reached his goal. The city in which he lived did a final trade, which was a house for him and his girlfriend. Crazy world we live in, but I thought to myself – why not try to do something just as crazy. I’ve recently started a website http://www.adsinmyhouse.com in which I am selling pixel space online like Alex, but also I am matching it by plastering the inside of my house with the same advertisements printed out on paper. Each day that I receive a new ad, I will create a copy of it on paper, place it in the appropriate room in my house, and then take a photo and post it to AdsInMyHouse. In essence, I’m trying to create the largest pop art masterpiece in history by turning my house into a living canvas. I know it sounds kooky, but this is a crazy world we live in. I invite everybody to check out the website. I have some history about me, the house and more details on what I am trying to do. I’ll try to keep an updated blog of my adventures, if not everyday, at least once a week. I’m hoping this story makes it to local and national news – so if you’re reading this – tell a friend!

California man builds next million dollar site with a twist!

Eric is an average guy with a plan to sell advertising on his newly launched website adsinmyhouse.com in order to pay for his house. What makes this concept unique is that he will also be printing out and placing the advertisements he sells online, inside of the house that he bought about a year ago.

The idea was born after Eric read a news story about a guy who had traded a paper clip for a house, and how a college student made a million dollars selling ad space by the pixel. While struggling to pay the mortgage, and with barley enough money left over to pay for gas, Eric decided to do something about it. He toyed around with many ideas, staying up late into the night to brainstorm ways in which he could pay for a house he could barley afford. Eric knew he wanted to build an advertisement site, but wasn’t sure how to make it unique enough to draw the media and public’s attention. At first he thought about placing advertisements on the outside of his house but then contemplated trouble with the city and his neighbors, what with the added foot traffic and media helicopters buzzing around. Then one day at work, while staring at the grid pattern on the wall in his office, Eric thought “why not the inside of my house?” This turned out to be the turning point of his venture and that night adsinmyhouse.com was born. Ads placed inside the house would be safe from weather conditions, graffiti and vandalism and quite literally would be a pop art masterpiece. The house is open to the press for photos and video coverage, and Eric will be available for comment upon request. At this time there won’t be any access for the public to see the actual house, but Eric stated that he would be keeping a photo blog of the ever-growing collage of advertisements that will cover the walls and ceilings of his home. Upon completion of the project, Eric stated he would frame and sell the advertisement with proceeds going to charity.

The project has taken Eric about 3 weeks to build and now he is in the process of marketing the concept to anybody that wants to increase their online sales up to 40%. Since this type of website has already been proven as a sales booster, the price for pixels and square inches inside of his house will be on a 4 pixels to 1 square inch conversion. Eric explains that if you buy a 10 x 10 pixel ad in the 2nd bedroom on the home page of his website for $100.00, that you will also get a 2.5” x 2.5” printed out ad in the accompanying room of the house. He goes on to say that the adsinmyhouse.com website will be running for a period of 5 years of which all paid for ads will be available, and the printed out ads will stay in the house for a few months after the last one sells on the website, or at Eric’s discretion.
